A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

Published by daniel keel the magnificent travelling gnome! at 12:34 PM
We went to the flea market in San Telmo this morning. It was bigger than we expected. Every day there are artesans in Plaza Dorrego, San Telmo´s main square. But on Sundays the market extends for 8 blocks north up Ave. Defensa to Moreno, and southwards all the way to Ave. San Juan. Lots of junk, but also lots of interesting trinkets. Lenore Evans could fill two houses. Anyway, Mike and Ryan bought souvenirs. I bought fresh squeezed orange juice.

Many of the vendors were dressed in costumes; we aren´t sure why, but we saw catwomen, samurai, metal people, Batman and the Joker, and a lady dressed all in blue with a skirt made of bubble wrap. There were also the requisite street entertainers. One group stood out: the ¨Juga Limpia¨(Clean Fun)¨ band. They were a huge percussion group, maybe 20-25 people, with drums and rattley bottles and sticks. And Mike says they were hitting glass Coke bottles. I didn´t see that. Argentine Stomp. They were impressive.

We went to a nearby cafe for lunch, where Mike didn´t like his food. (I´ll admit, it wasn´t very good. But his face was classic Mike.) While there, a seemingly middle class woman came in off the street and snatched a purse from a table. She tried for two but was caught. See Vicki? Don´t hang your purse off your chair!

Well, right now we are posting in the lobby of the hotel we checked out of, and I´d better stop writing before we are kicked out. We´ll post you from Atlanta. . .

HEYS GUYS

JAMES (HONK HONK) BURROWS HERE. JUST GOT DONE READING ABOUT YOUR ORDEAL IN SALTA & IT MADE ME A LITTLE WORRIED FOR RYAN AND MIKE AND...NOT SO MUCH DAN BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE HE'S BEEN TRAINING HIS BODY FOR YEARS IN EVENT OF A PROLONGED ABSENCE OF FOOD. YOU KNOW IF I WAS THERE, I WOULD NOT BE HAPPY! ("JAMES IS GETTING CRANKY!")

SINCE YOU DIDN'T RESPOND TO MY LAST COMMENT, I WILL NOT BE LOOKING AT YOUR PICTURES FROM NOW ON EITHER! YOU HAVE LOST A VERY DISLOYAL BLOGGER! JOHN PEKARSKI REFERRED TO ME AS "BROTHER BELCHER" TODAY, DURING THE WATCHTOWER STUDY...SO I SIGN OFF AS...
BR. BELCHER (HONK HONK)

Well, looks like the extravaganza is just about at an end. No doubt you guys will be wiped out tomorrow when you fly in to Bradley. What a trip though, eh? I was at the Willy meeting today and enjoyed the Watchtower reading by Brother Belcher (or was it Brother Belchertown?!). Thanks for all the many great photos and descriptions. We all enjoyed your trip and appreciate the time and energy it took to keep all of us happy. We won't hold the one dry period against you. Safe trip. See you soon.

Thanks for translating Daniella's comment, Dan. She sounds very sweet.

Also, thanks guys for taking us with you on your trip. It was almost more fun than my real vacations! Definitely more adventurous. :)

I wanted to say too that whoever was responsible for thinking up the titles to all your blogs...very creative. :)

Welcome home!

Dan, while stranded outside Salta, did you take advantage of the opportunity to perfect your donkey impression?

Hope your trip home was smooth. Talk to you soon! =)

Hey where is this post from Atlanta? Did you make it. Well I have to say that i'm missing you guy's. You guys left so had to go out all by my self last night. I went after i saw Dan and Ryan off. It was a like 8 figured it was time to go eat. HA HA nothing is open. So found a cafe sat around for a while. waiting for the city to come to life. It still amazes me that nothing starts opening till like 9. so i finally choose a place another parilla of course. More steak please. And i was the second coustmer of the night. Then i got fun the city looks different at night. Forgot the name of the streets i walked through. they look really different in the dark. {where am i, i need you Dan} So i had to ask where i was staying like a cop would know. Well he pointed me in the right direction. From where i was standing, it was two blocks not too far off. The spidey sence was kind of working. Well home safe at last at Bethel. Later the lonely traveller!!
